Rep. Bob Filner, the lone major Democrat running for San Diego mayor,
separated himself from his Republican opponents by saying
redevelopment’s demise may be a good thing for the city.
“The fact that all these power brokers and the mayor are so upset
means it must be the right thing to do,” Filner said. “The mayor called
it a money grab by the governor and I say ‘No, we’re stopping a money
grab from downtown special interests.’”
