Dirty DeMaio

San Diego needs real leadership - not more mismanagement and dirty politics. We need leaders who look beyond their own personal gain and work for all San Diegans.

What we don’t need is more dirty politicians – but that’s exactly what we would get with Carl DeMaio.

When DeMaio showed up at City Hall in 2002, nobody knew what was behind his buzzword-driven proposals for “cleaning up City Hall.” It turns out that it’s DeMaio’s own record that needs cleaning up. The truth is, Carl DeMaio is just one more dirty politician. And his record proves it:

DeMaio claims to be a fiscal watchdog. In fact, he can't even balance his own books and has regularly violated tax laws.

DeMaio says he’s running to represent fellow San Diegans. In fact, he recently said in a sworn affidavit that he is a resident of Arlington, Virginia.

DeMaio has criticized City Hall corruption and special interests. In fact, he is a lobbyist and consultant who represents corporations and special interests.

See for yourself. Get the facts on DeMaio's dirty record and help clean it up. Go to DirtyDeMaio.com.

This message was paid for by the thousands of firefighters, nurses, teachers and other workers of the San Diego Labor Council.

I have checked out the website you suggested and find your evidence weak at best. True, DeMaio is not a native of San Diego, but neither is anyone else. Your so-called lobbyist accusations are unfounded and simply incorrect. DeMaio founded the Performance Institute, with offices in San Diego and Arlington, VA. It's a non-partisan government think tank whose purpose is to find ways for government agencies to work more effeciently, saving the taxpayers money. His ideas on performance measurement are what this city needs at the moment and DeMaio has the experience to indeed "clean up" City Hall.

One last note, I am a Democrat and liberal activist and have no affiliation with his campaign. I did, however, attend the Performance Institute to take a course on project management. It was one of the most productive post-college courses I have taken. If DeMaio can bring those principles to San Diego government, he's got my vote for sure.

Where is Marti Emerald?

Carl may have lived back East but he has certainly integrated himself in the local community. I met him at a Mira Mesa Street Fair a few years back. Despite being on TV quite a bit back then promoting reforms to get the city's finances back on track, he came across as a down to earth guy to an average joe like me.

Please non-partisan, can folks name one Democrat his "think tank" has endorsed? Also, no "liberial Democrat" would vote for this guy. He is a stooge for Karl Rove and that should be enough to send a real liberial running.

Was he in Mira Mesa when he was declaring himself a resident of VA?

"This message was paid for by the thousands of firefighters, nurses, teachers and other workers of the San Diego Labor Council."

And that statement is going to make me vote against Carl? Please. DeMaio has my vote.

speaking of which, where is Marti Emerald?

wait, so is Demaio still a resident of Virginia? How can he run for office here?

a little birdie told me the labor hit piece was inaccurate...

Which reminds me, where is Marti Emerald?

How can the piece be inaccurate... the site links to a court filing that Carl Demaio signed that syas "I am a resident of Arlington Virginia" . I don't care how much you don't like labor, it seems to be a real case.

Labor would love for carl to spend his time repeating erroneous charges and responding to them.

That's like saying a girl has an eating disorder in a headline, then liking to "a fact" that you saw her have a meal once and she threw up shortly thereafter. Is the instance true? Maybe. Is the headline true? Probably not, unless you wanted to attack her personally in an unjust way.

In fact, she can be perfectly fine, but if she goes around telling people "i don't have an eating disorder" to observers, they would start wondering what problem the poor girl had with eating, image, etc.

I'm sure Lorena and the unions understand this analogy well. that's why they put the nasty hit piece out.

Take his stand on issues out for a moment. Carl is doing what he should be doing. Not resonding to the hit piece, and instead keeping on message and running a disciplined campaign.

Compare Carl to Mike Aguirre. Mike would have had 15 press conferences on this by now, and issued threats against the unions and his enemies. He would have made a huge side-show mess. Lost in all the bickering are the issues real people care about!

We all love politics, right? I can set aside my disagreements on issues and respect Carl for the sharp campaign he's running. I give him at least that.

I can't say the same for the Labor Coucil. The hit was amateur, flimsy, and over-the-top nasty. Stop embarassing yourselves.
