Why I’m supporting Gavin Newsom for Governor

A number of people have been asking me for an explanation for why I’m supporting San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom for governor of California in 2010. It made sense to write out my reasons, and I’m posting them here to share with you.

I’m supporting Gavin Newsom for governor of California, because he has proven his ability to address old and lingering problems, with new and creative solutions.

In California, our budget system is gridlocked. Our primaries favor the uncompromising extremes from either party. Our initiative process allows for private interests to dominate policymaking. These are seemingly impossible problems to overcome. The prevailing wisdom in California is that we’re ungovernable, that our problems are too entrenched, to difficult to solve.

We need someone who can take a fresh look at our state. We need someone who doesn’t get bogged down in the politics of the past, and isn’t afraid to experiment with new ideas.

What I’m going to do here, is to present a series of posts explaining why I support Newsom for governor of California. I’ll update this page with links, as I publish the follow-up posts. I have a number of reasons for preferring Newsom, and I think readers will find them easier to digest in smaller, subject-specific posts.

Before I go on, I also want to point out that San Diego Politico is not, as a blog, endorsing a particular candidate for governor. My endorsement of Newsom is one that I make individually. This is a group blog, and other bloggers on this site might have different preferences. I encourage them to explain why they support other candidates. Also, after this series, I will not be posting on “all-Newsom all the time.” But my allegiance may come out from time to time, and I think it’s best that I’m up front about them, so you know where I’m coming from. So, without further ado…

You’ve GOT to be kidding me.

In my humble opinion, Newsom is the WORST kind of politician.

A so-called public servant who ignores enforcement of the laws of California so that he can advance his personal / political agenda. Regardless of where you stand on the issues he espouses, hopefully all can agree it is not the place of a Mayor to make his own interpretation of CA state law or our the CA constitution. While I mostly vote with the other side, given his kind of Malcolm X doctrine (“by any means necessary”) I’d rather give to just about any other Democratic opponent or even to the “California Exploratory Committee for Newsom’s Prosecution”, a 501(c)3 which I just might start.

Luckily for CA, he stands zero chance of winning the Gubernatorial.

How any "open minded or informed" person could support Mr. Newsom for any office just shows the WIIFM mentality. If all you considered was the Illegal Alien Gang Member (who was protected several times by the Mayors continuation of the "Sanctuary City" protective order) who murdered that family, then NOBODY would ever vote for this self serving lifetime polician. (forget that he screwed his best friends wife) Regardless of how he stands on other issues, he will never be elected because of that. Much like LA Mayor Villa's (raygosa) statement during the Day Without an Illegal, where he said "We clean your toilets," one issue will dog them and preclude them of ever reaching the highest elected office in the State of CA! Thank God!

I live in SF a very liberal dem and Gavin Newsom is a HORRIBLE mayor. San Francisco is being ran FURTHER into the ground by Newsom...do you really want all of California to smell like urine because the HOMELESS AND THE POVERTY PIMPS run San Francisco. Live in San Francisco then decide about Newsom - he is the worst...

Seriously, Gavin Newsome is a Scum bag, I will do whatever it is my power to make sure he does NOT become governor of Ca. He is a homewreaking Adulterer (had an affair while in office), A prescription drug addict (poor thing, it wasn't his fault), He is a criminal, like when he issued same-sex marriage licences when it was Illegal. Who does he think he is.
He is garbage. People like him are the reason for the sinking of our society.
