Bob Filner Touts Port Expansion, Endorses Port Chairman Scott Peters

San Diego, CA – U.S. Congressman and Mayoral candidate Bob Filner will be joined Tuesday by Port Commission Chairman Scott Peters to urge expansion of the Port into an economic engine for the region, bring jobs back to San Diego, and to urge local officials to embrace a “clean goods movement.” Filner will also be endorsing Peters’s candidacy in the 52nd Congressional District race.

Filner has made the expansion of the San Diego Unified Port the centerpiece of his economic revitalization plan for San Diego. “We can create thousands of good-paying middle class jobs by enhancing the Port’s regional and international stature, and do so in a way that is beneficial to the surrounding neighborhoods,” said Filner. Scott Peters, an environmental lawyer by training, and past President of the San Diego City Council has worked to increase the size and scope of the Port’s operations during his time as Chair of the Port Commission.
